John R. Vanderzyl, M.D.

Dr. Vanderzyl was recently named one of the “Top Doctors in America” in a survey of physicians who were asked which doctor they would recommend for their families.

Dr. Vanderzyl is a native Houstonian who attended Strake Jesuit College Preparatory High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School in Houston. Dr. Vanderzyl completed a family practice residency program at Southwest Memorial Hospital, where he was Chief Resident. He is a medically licensed and credentialed family practitioner and managing partner of one of the most well-respected and successful independent group medical practices in Sugar Land and Southwest Houston. Dr. Vanderzyl has been in private practice for more than 25 years. He enjoys caring for patients of all ages and focuses on preventive medicine and education.

Dr. Vanderzyl is a member of numerous professional organizations and supports several charitable organizations including the Grant-A-Star Foundation and Child Advocates of Fort Bend County. He is a parishioner at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land. Away from the clinic, he is a devoted husband and father to two wonderful daughters. He also enjoys a healthy lifestyle that includes running, golf, and fishing.
